Review: Tea Tree Face Scrub
I basically bought this product on a complete whim. I knew my skin needed some sort of a pick-me-up, but ever since going vegan I’ve struggled to find products that are good for my skin, the environment and the animals. It hasn’t been my top priority, if I’m honest; I’m so please with my post-Roaccutane skin that a little unevenness is nothing in comparison! I had acne for seven years before I managed to get rid of the horrid condition, so as you can probably imagine being spotless now is heaven! A little dry skin seems like nothing, to me.
However, just a month or two ago The Body Shop had a fab sale on, giving you £25 off orders that were £50 or more as well as free shipping! If you balanced your basket just right, that meant a whopping 50% off! All of a sudden half the beauty bloggers on Twitter were posting snaps of their bargains and I just couldn’t resist joining in.
Like I’d imagine most people did, I placed an order just over £50 to grab the discount. I hadn’t tried many products from the Body Shop before, so I decided to sample a few different products – one from skincare, haircare, makeup and fragrance – just to dip my toe in the water. Although I’ve been quite impressed with each of them, this face scrub has definitely come out on top! I just love it. At £7.50 it’s very reasonably priced even without the discount, but in my opinion it lives up to so much more.
For starters, I think pretty much anything with tea tree in it smells fab. I love the fresh, green scent and it feels revitalising as soon as it touches your body. According to the Body Shop website the tea tree used in this range is grown in Kenya, and I think it’s great that they can trace their ingredients so accurately. It’s also SO important that the exfoliating grains are biodegradable with the devastating environmental impacts they can have. This is a very gentle exfoliant which is perfect for sensitive skin and more regular use, but for a weekly deep-clean you may need something with a little more vigour.
Now, online, the Body Shop claim this product is “gently foaming”. I have to tell you: this is probably the understatement of the year – this scrub lathers, and it lathers WELL. Personally, I love that, and I use it every morning in the shower (I even featured it in my “GRWM: Shower Edition” video over on my YouTube Channel). I find using it in the shower the best way to go because it does lather so much and I feel like it might be a bit difficult to wash off without a constant stream of water, but if you’re looking for a nighttime scrub it works just as well!
Now, down to the nitty gritty – does it work? Hell yeah. I don’t know how my skin ever survived without this product. Not only does it feel freshly exfoliated every day without going super bright red (which I have a big problem with, what with my acne scarring), but it also feels so clean. Like, the cleanest I’ve felt in years. Not in a gross way, I mean, I’ve always washed my face and been clean, that’s just how good this product is. I feel like it gets right down to the bottom of my pores.
I will absolutely be purchasing this product again and, finances permitting, cannot wait to try out the rest of the range. (There are 18 products in their tea tree skin care range, although I’m not 100% sure how many of them are vegan – I’ll have to get back to you on that one!)
